How to Dress Up for the Gym: Women Edition Clothing

When it comes to working out and exercising, many people don’t consider their gym attire high on their priority list.

Some would just be okay to balance fashion or comfort, while others see gym clothes as an unnecessary expense to showcase physique.

But did you know that beyond making you look good, gym clothes do provide benefits and can enhance your workout performance?

For instance, there are appropriate workout clothing that provides ample protection against overheating, strain, or impact and these are the kinds of clothes you should invest in, especially if you’re an avid exerciser!

So ladies, if you want to know how to dress up for the gym that won’t only boost your confidence but will also motivate you to do better, here are some tips for you!

1. Choose Moisture-Wicking Activewear

Wicking fabrics draw moisture away from the body. This type of material has a special cross-section that picks up moisture, carries it away from your skin, spreads it out, and eventually evaporates on the outside of the fabric.

Sure, cotton is comfortable at first and it stinks less compared to synthetic fabrics. However, wearing cotton clothes means it will absorb every ounce of sweat in your body. Few minutes of exercising and it would feel like you’re wearing a wet towel.

The more moist your gym clothes are, the more likely that bacteria will also grow there, especially if you’re wearing them for long periods. So, choose wicking fabrics instead as it is breathable and specially made for exercise!

2. Wear Supportive Undergarments

Wearing the right undergarments is just as important as choosing the right workout clothes. It doesn’t even matter what size your breasts are as everyone will experience bouncing during a workout or any physical activity in the gym. Therefore, you can expect that your breasts will bounce up and down.

Repetitive and continuous movements may result in pain, soreness, and sagging. Therefore, every woman should wear a sports bra while exercising or running. You may choose compression bras (comfortably compresses breasts to restrict movement during a workout), encapsulation bras (with individual cups to support breasts), or a combination of both to offer you the most support.

3. Leggings/ Flexible Gym Shorts Are Your Best Friend

Choose flexible bottoms, such as leggings, gym sports, sweat pants, yoga pants, or track pants. To know which one is right for you, consider the kind of workout sessions or exercises that you would probably do at the gym.

This will help narrow down your choices on what to pick at the store. If you’re planning to do general exercises or Pilates, we suggest you invest in stretch pants. If you’re inclined to do yoga workouts, choose cropped legging. But if you prefer cycling, a pair of gym shorts would be a good choice.

Just remember to invest in a good quality material that offers an adjustable waistline but does not stretch out too much so you’ll have a more personalized fit.

4. Consider Sport-Specific Shoes

Finding the right footwear to wear in the gym isn’t an easy process. You have to consider a pair of shoes that depends on the training you’ll be doing. Let’s say you prefer intense cardio workouts, such as running on the treadmill, then running shoes would be an excellent option.

But if your exercise routine involves a lot of deadlifts and weightlifting, then gym shoes with minimal arches or soled shoes would be your best bet.

If you take your gym workouts seriously, then your socks and shoes should reflect that. You may also want to invest in a multi-tasking shoe. For instance, it is a pair that can be used in running and weight lifting. But whatever the style of shoes you choose, just make sure that it allows optimal movement.

5. Wear a Fitness Tracker

Let’s be honest, exercising is already a challenge. So, why not just make it more enjoyable by investing in gym accessories or gear that will help get you off the couch?

And when it comes to fitness gears, wearing a fitness tracker can make a difference between a draining gym workout and a motivating one. It’s like having a personal trainer on your wrist!

A fitness tracker lets you record and watches your daily calories burned, heart rate, physical activity levels, sleep cycles, and step counts. Using these data, you can judge whether you’ll need a better night’s sleep, how effective your workout is, and much more health data about your body.

To motivate you even further to perform fitness-related activities, you can also take advantage of fitness trackers’ ability to play podcasts, music, and motivation talks from personal trainers themselves. However, we suggest that you don’t get obsessed with numbers so you don’t end up becoming stressed from failing to meet your fitness goals.

6. Carry a Clean Towel

No matter how clean the gym is in your naked eye, it’s still a place where germs spread. It’s because people go there to sweat it out.

A 2014 study on fitness centers even found that 25 types of bacteria exist in different surfaces of gym equipment, such as leg press, elliptical, power stride, treadmill, dumbbell, and stationary bike. That is why you need to protect yourself from catching fungal infections and germs by bringing exercise towels or gym towels.

You can bring at least 2 gym towels. One is to keep yourself cool or to dry yourself and another is to cover the surfaces of the most shared gym equipment. Some gyms provide antibacterial spray, though, so you may want to use the second towel on the machine that you’ve just used to clean it up before another person uses the equipment.

7. Wear a Reliable Hair Accessory

If a high ponytail falls down in your head or comes loose in the middle of a workout, it doesn’t help with your concentration at hand. That is why we included workout-friendly hair accessories as among the essentials as you go to the gym.

Wrap Up

There you go. Let us know what you think of these outfits and fitness gears. Overall, it’s best to keep things functional and relaxed or cool and sporty.

When you choose gym clothes that provide you with the best comfort in terms of style and fabric, it can make a world of difference. You’ll feel more confident and focused at the gym like you’re ready to get a satisfying workout!
