Taleah Testa – Gym Crush – Australian Fitness Model – New Interview & Photos

How and when did you get started in training and living a fit lifestyle?
My fitness journey started when I was 21 on my lounge room floor with really cheesy Pilates DVDs or I’d fast walk in the afternoons, but wasn’t long until I got bored plus I’m scared of plovers and especially magpies so I joined a gym and just did cardio. I hadn’t touched weights until I was about 23 and once I started I became obsessed and now that’s all I do! I taught myself really. I’d do loads of research before bed and if I wasn’t sure on a technique I’d watch clips.

What got you started in the fitness industry?
I started my own business in my hometown when I was 20, it had nothing to do with fitness though, I was a Laser and IPL Therapist. I loved it but I needed a lifestyle change so I sold everything and moved to the Gold Coast. The people here are very motivating, everyone is active, most people train or surf or train and surf! I joined World Gym Burleigh and I’d never seen so many fit people in one gym before! I guess being surrounded by fitness enthusiasts inspired me, beginning of 2015 I met my coach Chris Thomas, Director of Alpha Ethos and we decided I’d compete in the 2015 IFBB Arnold Classics Australia. I definitely couldn’t have don’t it without him. So really I’m just a newbie in the fitness industry.

Along with your fitness journey, have you ever felt like quitting… and if so what/who motivated you to keep going?
Omg yes! I’ve had many moments where I’ve thought are shows really worth it? The weeks leading up to a show are different for everyone but for me, It’s almost like I’m a different person, especially those last couple of weeks when calories are really low.. I have zero patience, I’m craving junk food like you wouldn’t even believe! I’m moody and I can’t be trusted with keys, phones wallets or anything else that should not be lost! So it’s a combination of things and my poor boyfriend copes with it… I’m surprised he’s stayed with me! But it’s him who keeps me motivated, he’s the most positive person I know, he’s my number one supporter and he is the reason I’ve come this far.

What types of cardio have worked best for you?
Definitely fasted fast walking in the morning, not running. I hold a lot of fluid in my legs and I found running inflames them especially my lower legs. I go for beach walks really early and in winter watching the sun rising is beautiful! If I’m cutting for a show I’ll add 15 mins on the treadmill on an incline, step machine or bike after my workout but only if it’s absolutely necessary!!! I really don’t like gym cardio, I’d rather swim at the beach or something.

What supplements do you use… and what are some of your favorites you would recommend?
I just take the basics while I’m in off season, fish oils, magnesium at night, BCAA’s while training, WPI Protein and Glutamine post workout. When I’m in prep I’m a lot more strict, I’ll take carnitine before cardio, HCL with meals for digestion, ATP T432 for metabolism and ATP Alpha Venus or Poliquin DIM for hormones depending on Chris’s instructions. My absolute must supplement is fiber, every morning and night without fail.

When you look back what do you think has been the key to achieving your goals?
Consistency! I’ve been consistently training and eating healthy every day since that first day I decided I wanted to be fit. Apart from cheat meals and holidays of course! If you see it as a lifestyle and not a phase you will get there. I get up every day and just do it, I never think twice.

What’s one tip you would give to a person just starting their fitness journey?
Again consistency is number one. Enjoy your food, if you don’t eat you don’t grow. Always have something to look forward to outside of fitness such as traveling, to feed the soul.

Since this is a Valentine’s Day special, what is the best Valentine’s gift you’ve ever been given?
A weekend getaway, which I have received a few times in the past several years. Spending time with him out of our normal element is always a nice gift rather it’s 18 hrs away or 45 mins from home.  

What’s one of the best gifts you’ve ever given on Valentine’s day?
That’s a tough one.. I’m not good at giving gifts or very romantic either. LOL However, my husband always picks out his favorite images from my shoots, so I once had them made into a calendar for just him. 




What’s better? Chocolates or lingerie for Valentine’s?
Lingerie. I’m always adding to my collection for photo shoots! LOL

What’s better? Do something romantic at home or beach vacation on Valentine’s day?
Definitely, the beach vacay for me. I’m an “on the go” kind of girl so a getaway to the beach is my favorite anytime! 




What’s the best thing about love?
Being able to experience life with your best friend, sharing unforgettable moments, and the adventures together.

Holly Barker Is Taking It To Another Level

From being a fitness model/ businesswoman to training thousands of clients from the launch of your new app, it’s obvious (and inspiring) you’ve come a long way. How was your experience in hindsight regarding that?

Woah!! Loaded question and Thank you for that incredible recognition!! 

The experience has been both incredibly seamless as it has been led through passion every step of the way. Finding how I can scale passion and live every day through a get to mindset. Learning that life doesn’t have to suck. There may be shitty situations, but if decisions are backed with a goal of forwarding movement toward happiness, then really the relativity between horrible and amazing is only known through the experiences we are blessed.  With seamlessness comes incredible difficulty as there are obstacles every step of the way in the entrepreneur field I have chosen. 

It’s refreshing and humbling every day to know that it is so much yet I am about to learn. Living through leading in my own way has blessed me with experiences I could never have imagined. I do believe the best is continuously yet to come. This may be a harmful way of thinking as I know I never fully realize the accomplishments along the way, but I believe it eludes to my effervescent energy. To know that things can never be judged for what they are. They can only uniquely mean what you create them to mean. And that’s all within my own ability. This is my growth life.

What’s the one aspect you’d say you enjoy the most about being a fitness model?

I love the ability to showcase the body I continuously build and to navigate myself through the many looks I have gone through. Healthy is beautiful. It’s taken me my whole life to accomplish the look I have and I love the ability to showcase my health t represent like-minded companies and products that help me get there. 

The choice to establish a career in both businesses, as well as modeling, really was awe-inspiring one. How did the decision to merge both come to you? And in hindsight, what would you say was the most challenging thing about it?

I believe that everything is business. And when we strategically plan our educated path to allow us to explore creative alternate avenues, in this case, fitness modeling, we can thrive and explore careers that will complement each other even though they may contradict at first thought. I am so passionate about business and I am equally passionate about my health and fitness. Everything I ultimately do is a byproduct of each by default.

Having grown up on a farm, being so close to animals and working hard since then, would you say fitness was in some way, shape, or form always part of your life? Or did you happen to discover your passion for it later in life?

I did grow up on a farm with horses and cows and bunnies, chickens, cats, peacocks and a tonne of land to be farmed… but farm work was far from my responsibility. My dad always let girls (me and my sisters) be girls. I played on the farm. But I did find my passion for fitness there as well. My dad always had a universal gym in the basement. I loved it and would do workouts and long distance runs with my cousin. I was involved in every team sport but didn’t truly find a passion for fitness until I found long distance running. The solo push drove me more than the competitive edge of a team opponent. I fell in love with running. It wasn’t until I was 21 that I got my first gym membership. From that moment I knew my play in the fitness game and had found a home in the gym.

As human beings, we all go through ups and downs and have moments of strength and weakness. As a fitness model, what inspires you when you’re down?

Honestly, fitness is always what helps me find my motivation when life seems to be knocking me down. If I’m tired, I take a day off, but if I’m sad, stressed, angry or frustrated, the gym is my saving grace.

On the days where I need a bit of motivation to get started or a push to rock an incredible workout, I search my resources for “yes I cans” – podcasts, music, motivational actors, leaders, influencers 

Do you ever draw any inspiration from the fiction of any sorts? What would be your favorite movie/book/TV show etc. that you’ve taken some inspiration from?

Reality is the most make-believe of all. I am proof that you can write your story to have as many chapters as you want. We grow up learning from impossible believers. They are the ones that create our paths. We can choose to lead amongst them. Once you decide that, all fiction you choose to believe can become your reality. Your story. 

What kind of music do you, yourself listen to while 
you train?

Dependent on the training day. 

Cardio is typically dance, electronic…

Lifting is new music, hip hop, alternative or show tunes

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Skydiving is up there. However, what I’ve done with my life this past 6 months is, without doubt, the craziest thing I’ve ever done. I’ll be able to elaborate as time passes. 

What is your greatest strength?

My mental fortitude. Belief. 

How do you measure success?

My happiness. 

What’s your most memorable photo shoot or the funniest thing that’s happened on a shoot?

My most memorable photo shoot is my very first one. It was a pivotal moment when opportunity met preparation. I was approached after my first fitness competition by an international photographer. He asked if I wanted to shoot the day after my competition to which I did not win. He saw something in me. This experience opened my eyes to what a great visionary and experienced influence in the industry could teach me. That photoshoot got me published three different times and increased my confidence and belief that in front of the camera was something I needed to pursue. Hundreds of published images later I still attribute who I believe I can become right now greatly to that moment.
