What got you started in fitness?
I have a friend who has competed for years. She taught me into doing a competition. I started working with my trainer Joe Discuillo and changed my eating habits. I loved the way my body responded so I stepped on stage in my first show in October 2010 feeling great and the rest is history! I will be making my Pro debut at the WBFF world championships August 2011 so stay tune!
Was there anyone you looked up to in fitness before you started?
Yes! the one and only Jamie Eason! she’s my biggest inspiration!
You model and compete, which do you you like better?
I love both soooo much, it’s equal for me. Competing because I like to set and reach goals, I love doing something that keeps me healthy and fit. I do much better modeling since I’m in good shape so they go very well together.
How has winning the Arnold Classic changed your life?
A lot, because it has giving me a lot of confidence and the feeling of accomplishing something like this is unexplainable. I remember like if it was yesterday when I hit that stage and the lights shined on me the sassiness came out and it was SHOW TIME.. I love the stage!!! And I know people can feel that.
When The Top 6 girls were on stage competing for overall, I was still in shock from winning my class. I could not believe it when they called my name for the overall winner. There are no words that can describe how I felt on that stage. When they presented me with the overall trophy I was numb. I am still amazed with all the attention this has brought me and I am very excited for the future with THE WBFF.
What do you do on your spear time when you’re not training or modeling?
Rest!!! LOL! I love listening to music while I clean, watching TV shows, hanging out with friends, getting my dance on, playing Tetris and scrabble, laughing, rollerblading, bringing my dog to the park and of course working out.
What’s the secret to staying in such great shape?
Theres no secret unfortunately… just hard work. I need to stay in shape always, not only to take advantage of any modeling opportunities that I’m lucky enough to get, but because it feels good to have control over my body. A balance diet and training are very important and there always in my life.
What’s your favorite body part to train?
I like working my abs because I love the results you get if you stick with it. I also like to work my legs because I love the feeling of weights but I have to say I love it all and my trainer constantly changes my workouts. We obviously do a lot of lifting in the gym, but we mix it up a lot with plyometric in the sand and track workouts.
What body part you get the most compliments from?
My glutes! I have always had big glutes. I have worked hard to keep them firm and tight though. When doing my cardio, I do different techniques to target the back side. I will do the elliptical for 20 minutes. I will do 3 minutes at 10 incline and a 12 resistance and then the next 3 minutes I will do a 15 incline at a 15 resistance. Increasing the incline really targets my glutes and hamstrings. I also do lots of plyometrics. I do this to try and keep the athletic tone look and not just a big muscular look. My Plyo’s consist of running stairs, leap frogs, jump squats etc. I will switch it up a bit and do the plyo’s in the sand. This really gets the legs and is a great workout. When lifting weights I do lots of Squats, lunges, leg press etc. I stick to doing 3-4 sets and anywhere from 12 to 25 reps depending on the day and how heavy I’m lifting.
What would you do if you weren’t a fitness personality and a competitor?
Honestly, I don’t know! I can’t imagine myself doing anything else, because I started modeling as a kid… I knew from a young child that I loved to be in front of the camera. As an adult, I continued modeling but I found my passion for fitness about a year ago, so I really can’t imagine doing anything else.
What’s next for Ingrid Romero?
My first goal is to win the World Championship in August. So all you guys come out and support me. My long term goals in the fitness industry is to be recognized worldwide as a fitness model.
This Is just the beginning. I am shooting to land a sponsorship contract this year. I have so many ideas on where I want my career to go. I have several very very exciting projects in the works. They are a secret so you will have to keep your eyes open and be on the lookout for me
I also want to use this opportunity to be an inspiration to others. I want to inspire people to take care of their bodies and understand that we only have one body and you have to cherish it. This means a lot to me as I use to be over weight. I was once about 65 lbs overweight, so I understand how it feels.
