This Week in Sports – October 9 thru 15

MLB – NLCS
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Through October 15 – The Milwaukee Brewers won the first game of the series 9-6, led by great hitting performances from Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun. The Cardinals look to regain the momentum that led them by the Phillies in the first round, and Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman will definitely have to step it up and support Albert Pujols for them to have a chance.

MLB – ALCS
Detroit Tigers vs. Texas Rangers

Through October 15 – The Rangers won a close game against Justin Verlander and the Tigers 3-2 in the first matchup, with a clutch home run by Nelson Cruz giving Texas the edge. Expect the series to go seven games with a lot more offense; Texas is loaded from top to bottom while Detroit has one of the best hitters in the game in Miguel Cabrera.

CFB
Oklahoma State vs. Texas – October 15

October 15 – Week 7 of college football features a great matchup in 6th ranked Oklahoma State travelling to play 22nd ranked Texas. The Cowboys were just able to squeak by Texas A&M a couple of weeks ago by a score of 30-29, but have dominated their opponents in the other games they have played. Oklahoma State is ranked second in the nation in passing yards per game at over 400 yards. The Longhorns are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Oklahoma Sooners 55-17 and look to stay in the hunt in the Big 12. Expect to see a shootout in Texas, with scores in the 30s at the very least.

NASCAR
Bank of America 500 at Charlotte

October 15 – The Sprint Cup Standings are closer than ever, with Carl Edwards leading both Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson by a combined 5 points heading into this week’s race. Jimmie won last week’s event at Kansas Speedway and looks to continue his historic run of Sprint Cup titles, while many others are in the hunt to overtake him in 2011.
