This Week in Sports – September 18 – September 24

September 19 – If either team wants to make the playoffs this season they will need to win this one to risk falling even farther behind their divisional opponents. Both teams are 0-1 on the season and the least they can afford to do is start the year on a losing streak. The Giants look to bounce back after their below average performance against the Redskins, while the Rams need to improve their defense after a week one loss to the Eagles. Expect the Giants to be the favorites in this one, especially if Stephen Jackson is out for the Rams. Players to watch: Justin Tuck and Sam Bradford.

September 24 – The Cowboys and the Aggies are both in the top 10 (7 and 8, respectively), which means a great matchup for college football Saturday. Oklahoma State has had a fairly light schedule to this point, having blown away three unranked teams and averaging over 400 yards per game (tops in the nation). The Aggies have had much the same, defeating Southern Methodist and Idaho in their first two games. This should be a real test for both teams to see who can potentially become a BCS contender. Players to watch: Justin Blackmon and Cyrus Gray.

September 20 – With only a few more games left to go in the regular season, a few great matchups remain, with one of them being the Rays versus the Yankees. The Rays have had a great resurgence of late and are only a couple of games behind the Red Sox for the wild card, while the Yankees look to further their lead in the division standings. Mariano Rivera is inching ever closer to passing Trevor Hoffman for the all-time saves mark, so make sure to tune in for that as well.

September 24 – Jon Jones looks to defend his light heavyweight championship by facing off against Quinton Rampage Jackson. Jones has had a great start to his UFC career with a 13-1 record, while Rampage Jackson has a career MMA record of 32-8. Jones is known for using both his arms and legs extremely effectively, as seen in his recent match against Mauricio Rua, so Rampage will need to be on his “A” game at all times if he was to become the light heavyweight champion once again.
